Good product - install is a bear (Toyota at fault).

The light seems to be built well and the gasket looks to be an upgrade over the OEM, however it does slide around during installation so make sure it is lined up correctly before securing it to the truck. Now the installation… freaking nightmare! It’s not due to the brake light, but Toyota’s design. You have to take off the back garment hooks and remove the clips inside to pull down the inside cabin ceiling. Be careful not to crease the ceiling as the crease(s) are permanent. You then are working blindly with a ratchet, extension and a 10mm socket to find and remove the nuts (2) that secure the light. I found it a bit easier to pull the ceiling down, use a block of wood to keep the ceiling down temporarily, and then work from outside the truck, through the back window while standing in the truck bed. Once you get the old light out, and the old gasket residue cleaned off, installing the new light is equally as difficult as remove the old light… again working blindly with a ratchet in a tight area. I must have dropped the nuts a half dozen times which is frustrating (get a magnetized socket). The whole install took me about 1.5 hours. Again, this LED 3rd brake light is a good product but Toyota’s design made this install a bear!

We’re sorry the installation process was more difficult than expected. As you mentioned, the factory mounting location and limited access behind the headliner can make this installation challenging. Your tips about supporting the headliner and using a magnetized socket will be very helpful to other Tacoma owners.

Perfect Upgrade for My Tacoma

Installed this on my 2021 Tacoma in less than 15 minutes. The seal around the light is much better than OEM and no more leaking during heavy rain. The downward-facing lens is actually super useful at night when loading tools into the truck bed. Highly recommend!
